I've had no problems seating into the lands. However, being a few thousandths off the lands gives you better safety regarding pressure because static friction is higher than dynamic friction.

The...

This seems like a reasonable place to ask the question. Do AR piston systems work like on the FAL where you have an adjustment valve that vents to atmosphere?

Since the OP is interested in...

interceptor, you seem to be under the impression that just because I don't make barrels I know nothing about accuracy.

You must admit that the claim that an off the shelf Savage would beat a...

Sort of. It turns out that SRT makes exactly what I'm going for:

LOL!

I'll take that as an agreement to disagree :)

I do concede that an AR can never match a dedicated match bench rest gun though. I would feel a bit put out if an off the shelf Savage 223...

I have tp555's on-off on my 223 and three way on my 300-221 uppers.

The on-off block is awesome. You don't realize just how loud the action is until you completely banish that noise. Felt recoil...

I can personally vouch for tp555's work. He did both my 223 and 300-221 uppers. I haven't busted the cherry on the 300-221, but the 223 upper will put bullets through the same hole at 100 meters.

The longer your barrel, the quieter your gun will be. So far as I know, all the 9mm cans will work with subsonic loads, especially from a 16 inch barrel which is about as long as you want to go with...

I'm trying to find a middle ground where I get the choice of velocity of using a muzzle can but the handier short length of an integral (not to mention the visual appeal of an integral). I would...

I'm getting desperate!

I'm trying to design an integral suppressor for the MKII series pistol. I do not want to give up the velocity that the AWC Amphibian does. But I still want reasonable suppression.

I really need...

While disagreeing with me, you kind of make my point. My AR does not have a standard off the shelf barrel. It is a custom Douglas barrel.

I really have difficulty believing that an off the shelf...

Why do you say that? If I didn't make it clear, I was excluding bench rest rifles because they are pretty much the peak of accuracy potential for small arms.

But an AR with a match barrel should...

Nice use of driving bands there. Should keep pressure levels safe and lengthen the life of the barrel.

How does it group?

I've considered solid copper projectiles. But so long as regular bullet noses are available, why bother?

With tuned ammo and someone better at shooting than I am, I'm pretty sure my AR can touch 1/4 MOA. It can certainly beat 1/2 MOA. That's with the 223 barrel. I've been too busy to test the 300-221...

Douglas makes a good 1:8 twist 30 cal barrel. It's a blank though. You still need a smith to chamber it and fit it to your action of choice.

I think most cans in 30 caliber are threaded for a length of 0.625" in 5/8-24.

I don't have a finalized design yet (darn close though) for a can to go on my PPK/S. I'll be putting in a PP barrel...
