Hell its the exact opposite around here, unless you hunt feilds or power lines you won't get a shot more than 30-40yd. I shot one 2yr ago at about 15ft. Hell there could be a whole herd of deer 100yds away and you would never know it.

I have only killed 5 deer. my first 3 were with .308 winchester. My last 2 with subsonic .300 blackout, loaded with 178gr amax at 935 fps. Then the one my daughter took with the .300 blackout. I cannot legally hunt with a suppressor in NC, but the main reason I use the subsonic is none of the shots i have taken a have been more than 50 yds. Another reason is just because I want to prove that it can be done, that it is more about shot placement than anything else. Even without the suppressor it is not that loud. Unless I am hunting a place where I can get a shot more than 200yds I will be shooting subsonic using either my buddies low velocity expanders. or a 200gr or heavier lead or jacketed bullet.

Since I have currently 2 .300 blackout uppers someone will get to use one shooting super sonic, either the same one my daughter did or a 155gr cast bullet going 2000fps. By next year I hope to have a 9 to 10 1/2 inch .300 blkout barrel for my sbr.

Had a buddy last year kill 3 on the last day of the season in less than 15 minutes with a .30-06

I've only tagged one with the 300W using 220 SMKs, it passed through the chest cavity like the 240's.

I'd like to try the Outlaw bullets, but I haven't brought myself to pay that much for pills. They're as expensive as my 50cal pills and I haven't gotten over the sticker shock yet.

How did you guys modify the SMK's above? Drill, sander, file? Was it a pain in the ass to get the weights consistent?
It is easy. A few minutes. Dremmel with the little carbide cutting wheel. Cut the tip off. (like butter) Then use a small drill bit, then a little bigger drill bit if you want it a little bigger HP. Hand file and polish. The only setback is they don't feed consistent enough in my AR. So I hand feed it and the clip is stacked with stock OTM's. The first shot is all you need. If not. Stick him with a pointy one, on a follow up.

For as much money that you would have in time and material, you could have the real thing.

Wow, I wouldn't have even attempted to shoot a deer with a 90 XTP. Glad to know it worked. Did it explode halfway through the chest or did you make a headshot? What kind of velocity are you getting with that load?

90 grain TSX with trailboss...I bet that's beyond movie quiet. You've got to share some info on performance, especialy if it was a shot to the chest cavity. Congrats

To put it into perspective, this is what you killed a deer with. Damn! Everything I read says my 25-20 is not a hunting cartridge, but is shoots a 75 gr bullet at a little over 2000 fps. It puts quarter size holes in coyotes @ 100 yds. I may have to get it out. I say good job. Shot placement would have to be critical and you must have that down.

Did you recover the bullet?
Where did you shoot the deer?
Where are the pics?

shot the deer from about 35 yds he had his head down feeding. I caught him just to the right of the spine through the chest he was front on to me..I could not recove the bullet but the lungs where destoyed... I decided to try the XTP bullt becuase Hornady is loading it in deffensive ammo extreme termenal preformance is thier claim. I could not get picture...didn't have phone with me...but I can tell ya I will be working with this load more. I dont have a chrono graph but at 3000' elevation and about30 degrees there is no sonic crack! Hope the info is usefull...
