There was an Indiana gunsmith that built ARs and bolt actions in a similar cartridge that matched the velocity of the 35 Remington with 200 grain bullets IIRC. I don't remember his barrel length....

Is a barrel extension legal?

I've posted here before about using long barrels instead of suppressors for pistol caliber subsonic shooting. Since then I put a 28" sporter profile barrel on my 10/22 and it's almost silent with Rem...

I was talking with a fella in Washington state that makes case inserts on a lathe for cat sneeze loads in a 45/70. He glues them in with Locktite so they can be removed with heat when the case life...

Nice work.

I bought a SU-16A last year, the barrel screws in and headspaces like a Savage. So with just the purchase of a barrel I could take this 5lb rifle blacktail hunting. 80 gr TTSX at 2900...

And they fed well? I considered doing that to take up powder space but I was concerned that the next cartridge might catch in the lifter and jamb. This was also my worry with 45 Cowboy Special brass...

I got a Taurus Thunderbolt pump with a 26" barrel for the same reason but I haven't started loading for it yet. It's a fun gun to shoot and it has a decent trigger, it also would be tough one to...

That's the post that I was looking for, and I already have 5744. :nanabang:

Is that still subsonic? Quick Load says 9.3 gr 5744 gives 1050 fps. I'm hoping that Quick Load is wrong, I substituted...

Barnes is coming out with a 110 TSX and a 110 TEC-X soon, probably the same bullet. The pressure relief from the grooves should help with velocity a bit and they might shoot better too. They probably...

Thanks 320pf

I've searched and read threads for "TNT" and "Speer" but I didn't find anything specific about the how the TNT bullet reacts at these velocities. I have a hunch that it might be a bit...

Size of game with supersonic 125 gr TNT?

I can't find out much about the TNTs performance on anything larger than varmints. I've seen it mentioned here for yotes and rabbits. I'm interested in it for 100-150 lb blacktail deer in rainy,...

Hmmm... Yes it is. Going this route I'm thinking the smaller case and bullet diameter the quieter it would be. I see that the 357 mag isnt offered, I was thinking with heavy bullets, but the 38 sp...

Quiet (72 db) 12 Gauge.

http://www.metrogun.com/

Apparently it's BATF legal, why? I thought any device that lowered the sound more than 3 db. (2?) was considered a suppressor. Is there a loophole for shotguns? Is...

Since Buckshot wants to shoot heavier bullets my (admittedly unclear) suggestion of using a mostly stock Mini-30 in 7.62x39 is moot.

Since you're using an aftermarket barrel I'm assuming that...

Since you don't have one yet why not get a Mini-30 instead? The early -30s had a .308 bore instead of .311. It has a 1-10" twist so it should stabilise 180s. The gas bushing could be opened up so it...

Hornady makes a 178 gr. A-MAX. It's a .308 bullet so it might be iffy in a .311 bore (paper patch?) but it's a target bullet with similar construction to the V-MAX varmint bullet so I'm curious to...

Even less .003"

Here's some loaded 220 gr subsonic 7.62x39, I don't know of a .311 220 gr bullet so I assume it's .308 diameter. http://www.ebr-inc.net/detail.asp?id=3

Didn't know that Pug. That explains why the long barreled 45ACP is louder than I expected. How much quieter would a 9mm 147 grain subsonic load be in the same length barrel?

I've never been on a hog hunt so I don't know if a standard .45ACP would be enough. I know that a Marlin 45 Carbine will handle +P and .45 Super ammo with a stiffer Wolfe recoil spring, I'm hoping...

Poly-tips would improve the bc AND initiate expansion. I'm sure they would cost more but perfection usually does.
