Phrobis/Buck M9 on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6590934417&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEDW%3AIT&rd=1

Just watched this auction end at $425 for a complete, NIB Commercial 1987 Buck/Phrobis M9 188> marked bayonet. I have the exact same item in my collection and would be interested in selling it if thats a legitimate price. I wouldnt even want that much, but figure if the market is willing, then Im selling. Anybody offer some onsight on the price the auction brought?

Okay, the above link isnt working probably because its and ended auction. If your familiar with how to search on Ebay for completed auctions, the number is: 6590934417

Here is the auction:

Ebay auctions are impossible to relate to real world prices... That was a nice knife with the box and papers but IMHO not worth that much money!

Hi I'm James Parker and I am offering some great knives for auction. We just bought a big group of mint in the original issue box discontinued knives from a store stock acquistion, a great find. Personal checks, money orders, and Pay Pal gladly accepted. TN residents pay 9.25% state sales tax. Winning bidder pays $7.50 for UPS or Priority Mail Shipping with Insurance included. Thanks.

This knife for auction is mint in the original issue box 1987 issue Buck M9 Bayonet knife. This fixed blade M9 Bayonet is mint in the original issue Buck Knives M9 Bayonet box with original issue sheath. Please see the Supersize Photos.

This Buck M9 Bayonet is 12" overall with a 7" blade and is tang stamped with Buck 188 U.S.A. >. The ">" dates this as a 1987 issue Buck knife. The opposite tang is stamped with M9 Phrobis III U.S.A. This is one super knife. It has the grayed smooth satin finish on the blade and features a bloodgroove as well. Please see the Supersize Photos.

This super discontinued Buck M9 Bayonet is mint in the original issue 2 piece Buck Knives M9 Bayonet box and being offered at No Reserve.
Here are the pics from the auction:

Seriously, take nice pics and write up a decent description and EBAY will give you the best money on your knives... You are welcome to post in the classifieds area of the forums as well or a link to your auction if you wish...

I totally agree with Quarterbore ...the knife shown above is nice, really in MINT condition, but absolutely not worth so much money!
Consider, also, that the Buck commercial dated 1987 ">" M9 is not really scarce (at least in the collector's market), as there is always one (or more) for sale on ebay every two/three weeks.

My best guess would be in the $200 - $250 range but that is based on ebay prices for a mint in box with papers knife...

I just did a quick search and here is an example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BUCK-KNIFE-M9-BA...QQcmdZViewItem

Prices on ebay are impossible to predict however... the same knife with lousy pics and a poor description might sell for $150 or some nut case may come in and pay you $550 for it...

If you take a look at the bidding history on that particular auction, there were enough bidders willing to pay more than the "average" price:

nickdollars (144) US $425.00 Jan-25-06 18:44:26 PST

super_33 ( 2 ) US $420.00 Jan-25-06 14:13:18 PST

tincan0_3 ( 17) US $350.00 Jan-24-06 20:38:20 PST

super_33 ( 2 ) US $320.00 Jan-24-06 15:09:26 PST

tincan0_3 ( 17) US $300.00 Jan-24-06 20:38:01 PST

super_33 ( 2 ) US $210.00 Jan-21-06 07:51:46 PST

niko123cooking ( 55) US $205.00 Jan-22-06 18:47:29 PST

bkacher1063 ( 251) US $200.00 Jan-20-06 17:08:25 PST

super_33 ( 2 ) US $200.00 Jan-21-06 07:50:55 PST

Truthfully, the description of that auction was done very well, and great photos, etc. Plus, it came out some guys personal collection, not that it should add to the knifes value, but who knows. Does anybody on this website track the Ebay auction histories for the M9 ? Wonder what the most amount of money paid for a Commercial Buck M9 was?
