I have, most do in "indoor" ranges for small bore comps and most who use test fixtures thats why I asked. Since rem is such a big company I figured they did it indoor at a 33yd distance since there would be no wind and temp/humidity controlled...

Midway currently has the Remington 220gr AAC rounds in stock.

I had a chance to put a few Rem 300 BLK rounds through my gun (12" 5R Rock barrel) and had a few thoughts:
1. The subsonic rounds were indeed subsonic - which is good.
2. The Remington rounds were appreciably louder than my hand loads (lil gun.)
3. The Remington rounds were not as accurate as my hand loads.

That said, a friend was breaking in his new Noveske 16" 300BLK rifle, and his gun liked the rounds more than mine (then again, he had a longer barrel and a higher power scope.) Likewise, he commented that the Remingtons were louder in his gun than were my hand loads.


And his 16" wouldn't cycle with the subsonics without a can - but functioned fine with a can.

All in all, the price of the Remington makes them a decent deal, but for quietest report and most accuracy, hand loads still win.

And, FYI: my hand loads are reloaded on Whisper dies and to Whisper specs. The 300BLKs I shot this weekend were the first BLK rounds through my 300BLK barrel. I'll stick with Whisper specs when quiet and accurate are needed.

But for $21/box...

Thanks for the field testing report.

I have been following the 300 BLK and all the new information I can find. I am a long time 300 whisper user and have accumulated four encore and contender barrels made by Thompson and SSK in pistol and rifle lengths. I also have one each of MGM 300-221 in contender and an EB Brown 300-221 Encore barrel. All shoot my 300 Whisper reloads in super and sub accurately. I don't have a suppressor yet but so far my subs aren't much louder than a 22 LR using N110 powder.

I have so many barrels in the same caliber as they are spread out in VA, Paraguay, and Uruguay where I have hunting lodges.

I like the 300 BLK based on what I have read but don't think I will change over as I have so much invested in the whispers and 300-221's.

I assume the 300 BLK's will load in a 300 whisper chamber if I ever had a need?

If I am mistaken, please correct me, but I think 300Whisper works fine in a 300BLK but not the other way around. BLK can handle higher pressure than Whisper, so whisper ammo in a BLK is no problem; but BLK ammo in a Whisper might be dangerous.

For not much $$, you can have your Whisper barrels reamed to BLK, it's what I did and it worked out very well.

There is no one chamber called Whisper. There are many. All of which will have more pressure than normal if you shoot 300 AAC BLACKOUT ammo in them. Some worse than others.

Shooting 300 AAC BLACKOUT in a Whisper chamber is a bit like shooting 5.56mm in a 223 chamber.

Also I got a stuck bullet in a 300 Fireball chamber. Point is - there are a lot of random chambers out there - which is why when we standardized it, we could not call it 300-221 or 300 Fireball. We had to start fresh.
