The silencer talk design bullet in 250 gr instead of 275 lubed with lubilox would be the tits!!!!!!!

That way we could still not worry about a baffle strike with most 1:8 twist barrels and they would feed in ar15 actions and not gunk the action up too much.

Lee and Ranch Dog make some tumble lube designs - very shallow lube groves. NOE on cast boolits have made some that start out as bore rider, 1st groove .310, second 311 or whatever, you get the idea. Need very shallow and few grooves to keep length down. Subsonic, most all drag is at rear. Some of the members on the site under wanted group buys could mock up a computer drawing for such a bullet..Hope info helps

I'm not sure if this is similar to what you are talking about? I found it surfing around.
From the reference site above:

That looks like a reasonably aerodynamic bullet design but would it be safe to use in a 300 Whisper? What happens if the body of the bullet obturates before it clears the case neck? Looks like an easy way to blow up the action. I suppose that depends on the alloy used. The lack of lube grooves and no way to use a gas check are also concerns.

I like this concept but would think a 220-240 would be a better weight range. Looks like it would feed well from a mag too. IIRC it does not have a lube groove on purpose. I think it is moly coated rather than a wax lube to keep a can as clean as possible. Also, a gas check should not be needed for sub sonic loadings. The idea was to keep the bullets as cheap as possible.

The idea is sound but the thread is from January of 09. Looks like whoever started the project never completed it.

How much would moly coating add to the cost of the bullet?
Also would AA1680 be a compressed load at 10 gr? That runs a carbine gas system subsonic.

A large part of the original thread was about making his own bullet mold. Not using lube grooves allowed him to use a simple d reamer instead of having to make a cherry.

The biggest thing CastBoolits has ever run was 311284 that came out at 225 gr.. Know someone that has a 230 gr. that will start keyholeing at 100 yds. doing 1850 out of a 30-06. No idea what the size was..

The reason the bullet started tumbling is because they never made '06's with 8-twist rifling. My RCBS 200-SIL comes out at 215 grains with my wheelweight alloy.

With the right speed the 8 twist is not needed. Know someone with a 300 whisper that has a 1 in 10 and shoots 220 rn just fine.Different guns, same twist. Have found that when shooting cast, sometimes you get a gun that is real sensitive, ie..has to be cast harder, softer, different lubes, different powder, sized, not sized, and even primers. But at 1800 fps it should shoot ok. Have a 357 shooting a 215 cast at near max pressure. It shoots just fine until it is reduced to 1000 fps ( for sub use ) and past 50 yds they do better if you throw them. Shooting 180's with jackets just fine. Check out Cast Boolits web site. Some of those guys on there shoot some big long stuff in normal twist rifles. Just trying to give some info that somebody might find useful.-- NEF handi rifle 357, noted for looong throats.
