how to take pictures of knives/bayonets

Hi,
I attempted to take some pictures of my bayonets with a digital camera, but as you can see in the M9 bayonets forum the results are...disappointing.
So, could someone with some photographic skills post a small "tutorial" on how to take pictures of knife/bayonets?
