New (to me) 184

Just wanted to share my newest tool with you all.

I picked up a complete 184 for a song. I found it at an online pawnshop for 13.99. The pictures were stock photos and were not of the actual knife. The item description was extremely short and vague, but I decided to risk it for 13.99. I half expected a cheap imported imitation to show up at my door.

It arrived today and it is the real deal. It is also complete except for the box and papers. It has 1 compass, 1 compass pouch, 1 larger accessory pouch, 2 pins that screw into the guard, 1 sheath w/all straps, tiedowns, and sharpening stone. For 13.99, I am thrilled. I have wanted one of these since I was 8 years old. A fews days after my 25th birthday and Christmas, I finally have one.

I believe it is what you call a pre-patent because it has the BUCK 184 U.S.A. stamp. However it is complete with the pouch compass and not the handle compass. Would that put this one somewhere around late '84 to early '85 manufacture?

Thanks for letting me share,
Matt
