Powder type (ball, extrude or flake?) for the .300 whisper.

I was looking at the link to the powder burn rates to see what range the Whisper is in and I have two questions. Im asking before I do the research, so dont bash on me to bad.

Within the range of powders that can be used for the .300 whatever....What is the preferred type of powder (ball, extrude or flake)??

Does the gas port location make much of a difference when picking a powder? I have a 16" pistol position with a TP555 3-way adjustable gas block.

Im headed up to town and try to pick up some powder, think Ill try some H110 and maybe another if he has anything close.

I guess I'll be looking at each powder to see what it is, since the Burn rate chart doesnt show what type of shape the powder is...
