Minimum barrel profile

(SKIP TO THE LAST PARAGRAPH FOR THE MAIN QUESTION IF YOU DON'T LIKE TO READ)

Hello, still in the process of my "build" (mostly due to the extreme backlog over at M1S--ordered last January).

I'm designing the suppressor myself and gonna do a Form 1 build. In order to save "length" the design is a 'slip over' and going to be very similar to the reflex type suppressor.

The problem I'm running into is two fold. First the main "blast baffle" is going to be done with a permanent muzzle comp. Because When the suppressor is off the rifle I want it to be 16" so I can use it to hunt anywhere (some states do not let you use NFA to hunt). The barrel itself will be 12.5" with a 3.5" comp welded on. So that is going to be "threaded and welded" (thinking 1/2x28 threads).

Now the main can is going to "slip" over the barrel (for 5.5 inches) and be threaded with the largest threads I can get around a .750 barrel and still be sturdy. This means "turning down" the rest of the front barrel so the can will fit.

Now, with a .30 cal bore that means an aweful thin barrel at the front. Especially at where the compensator attaches. Perhaps I should come up with a press weld for the comp instead of the thread design. But how thin can I go? Ideally I'd like to start with a BULL barrel as I'd have more "meat" to work with.
