Remington 600 For A Whisper Bolt Gun?

Anybody using a Rem 600 action for their Whisper bolt gun? Seems like it would be ideal. Anybody know whether or not you'd run into the same feeding/ejection issues as on the 700? I want to build a compact/light Whisper bolt gun and the 600 action seems like just the ticket. What say you?

A complete 600 action including bolt and magazine weight about 4.2 oz less than a 700 short action and is 0.88 inches shorter. The 700 SA has four scope base screws, the 600 has three. The 700 however has a much better selection of after market parts like stocks, triggers, magazines , floor plates and scope rails.

If you already have a 600 with a 223 size bolt face (most likely a 222) then it should be about the same difficulty as converting a short action 700 if you want to use the existing stock. The only difference in the barrels is the standard contours they use. Pac-Nor offers "prefit" 300 whisper barrels with a selection of lengths, twists, threads and contours.

Ditto. Same remarks for a Rem 7 on the after market side of the house.

I thought there were two issues with the 700,

I've heard reports of extraction being and issue with the (relatively) long bolt travel in the short action for the very short whisper case. Like wise, I had one guy tell me feeding hasn't been very reliable for him, but who knows how he was loading the bullets.

Also, the 700 is fairly heavy and large. That's not a con really, just a note. That action is set up to handle MUCH larger cartridges and pressures.

I'm about two seconds from making a post on the CZ-527 as a bolt host (1898 Mauser scaled down).

edit: I should note I have a 700 in 308 and love it. I would also consider the Rem Model Seven (improved and scaled down 700) for a whisper gun. But, like was mentioned the aftermarket isn't entirely there yet. They are a tad spendy when not in mossy oak.
