Two Odd Whisper questions regarding gas systems

1. Has anyone ever seen a 300 whisper with a piston system? Either AR or AK or? Would doing a whisper on a piston driven action being a trivial matter of making sure the pressure is correct or is there something else to it?

2. Since I've read that 9mm suppressors will work for whisper doesn't that mean that a blowback whisper is also possible?

I've built a 30-221 on a SIG 552 and it was truly a pain to get working for both suppressed and unsuppressed in sub and supersonic. I believe that for a longer barrel length it might be a bit simpler. The port in an AK might be big enough but I've not tried one of those. Changing barrels in an AK is a pain so its probably not on top of anyones list of guns to try. AR's with piston systems may be a bit more versatile so give it a go.

The fact that a 9mm suppressor will work for the whisper has nothing to do with its suitability for blowback use. In my opinion the whisper has the capability to be loaded well above what a blowback system would handle. I don't know what pressures you'd be looking at subsonic but with the 220gr slugs I'd bet is up there beyond the .45. Opening the breech at those pressures will be hard on the brass and is asking for trouble. .45 guys have enough trouble with the locked breech and I've not seen too many blowback 9mm's with bolts that weigh less than a pound or more.

Hope that helps
Frank
