Greetings all and I have some very bad news...
I had installed the forums a few months back and I was a very bad webmaster and I didn't watch for upgrades and low and behold there was a major security gap with the version of the code I was using that allowed someone to access my control panel.
The only damage that was done was that the added a line of code that redirected the forums to another webpage. I also want to share that everybody's personal information is secure as the board encripts your passwords. Really the only thing that this person could done (to my knowledge) was delete all of the forums, threads, posts or send group e-mails to everybody. Yea, that is why I locked everything down yesterday and spent most of the day looking for ways to correct things and still save the existing posts.
This is a fresh install of a new version of the forums and I understand that this version closes the security issues of the previous version. My problem is that while I have the data in the old forums there was no easy way for me to transfer the files to this new board as when I tried it caused major errors. 300_whisper-newbee and I manually transfered many of the old threads (bear with my editorial power as I decide which to transfer) to this new forum.
You may also find a ton of broken links in this forum now! I am trying to find and fix them but it is taking a great deal of time as I need to correct many threads plus all the links I have included throughout my website... Did I say this is a major PITA yet? Sorry again and it is now time to start over again. I hope that everybody comes back again and we can get this forum back to where it was...
Also, just like the hacker did not have access to member info neither do I. This is the reason that everybody has to reregister on this new board...
F.W.I.W. The old board was up for six months and we had reached 103 registered users and 509 posts. It really sucks to look at the old board and realize my only real option is to start over and bring the old data over!
Following is a photo of me when I realized that we had been hacked...
