Liver of Sulfur which used to be available at art and craft stores is used for blacking copper and brass. They use it to darken the low areas and by polishing the high surfaces you get more contrast.
You can put some on a pad like an ink pad and rub the case head on it to black the ends. The next batch can be rolled or the necks colored etc....
Not sure if the stuff is still available as its probably toxic in california but its worth looking into. Its nasty smelling, like rotten eggs due to the sulfur, but it works well and is fairly permanent. It can be polished off but won't rub off like sharpie. It could likely be applied to bulk cases in some manner too so you won't need to handle each case individually just to color.
