Question 7.62 x 39 M4 Jackhammer ???

O.K. - This could be the dumb question of the day...

I was surfing for whisper info, and possibly a source of ammo so I won't have to load my own yet when I finally finish this thing. I see that Engel Ballistic Research has a subsonic "7.62 x 39 M4 Jackhammer" round at a price of $450.00 for 500. They say this will work on a M16 platform. Will this work in an AR15 based whisper? I know the whisper has a bunch of different names. Is "7.62 x 39" code for 300 Whisper? I thought I read that somewhere - or is this just the dumb question of the day? I'm still learning as I'm building this project, and I hope this isn't a dumb question - like trying to stuff a 30 cal bullet down a .223 hole...

Check out what I'm talking about at http://www.ebr-inc.net/index.asp under pistol and rifle ammo.

Thanks for any input.

300/221 should be 7.62 x 34
1.350" is right around 35mm... Maybe a closer to 34mm. My mental math is rusty.

Also, I believe 7.62x39 is what AK47's shoot. So in other words, my opinion on this is "No" it will not work. I am curious as to why they decieded to call it a "Jackhammer". Maybe it wasn't selling well as just 7.62x39

Thanks, Lawfficer.

I think Engel calls this the "jackhammer" because it is supposed to cycle a semi-auto. I could swear I read somewhere that someone on the web was trying to standardize the 300 whisper/ 300-221 fireball/ whatever other copyrighted names that round has, as the 7.62 x 39 to get the round out of wildcat territory. I haven't been able to find the site or post. I think I'll call Engel Ballistic and ask what that round was made for, and if it would work. All of these different names for the same round kinda' stinks. I mean, I'm already confused enough. Is it really worth it to copyright a bullet?

If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.

7.62x39 is what the AK47, SKS, etc are chambered for. Certainly, it has a role very much like the 300 Whisper when loaded subsonic, but is a considerably different cartridge.

This round is designed to feed and function M16/M4 weapons in this caliber in both semi- and full auto. It utilizes a 220-gr. projectile. Also works in Kalashnikov weapons with slight ramping. Cycles both weapons with or without a suppressor. Independent testing has given sub-1/2 MOA accuracy at 100 yards using aimed semiautomatic fire. Light recoil and enhanced controllability make this ammunition extremely effective in full automatic mode. A true breakthrough in subsonic ammunition in this caliber.
Jackhammer is the name for the round by with a particular bullet, like Black Talon, or HydraShock - the reason it's important that it loads in AR magazines is that sometimes the rounds are loaded for different overall length that what your platform can handle, colt and few others make 7.62x39 uppers most of which are designed either for 8 rounds in 20 round .223 mags or Frankenmags with AK grafted onto an AR magazine.

IE your gun cycles as long as the overall length doesn't exheed say 2.25 inches but these are loaded to a different length... either too long to go into the magazine so as to be single load or I have seen too short so won't go up the feed ramp.
