let's try this again

What did you use for a tip ? Your tips look good. If you want them to expand more. Maybe tip them with a bigger hole leave an air pocket behind the tip.
Did you think about trying Al,Ni,Br ? Maybe the Aluminum alloy in it might make them a little weaker and more subject to deformation... I don't have my KPSI yeild strength tables here so I may be way off .. Just thinking out loud..

have fun ... K

I used a delrin tip, it only goes into the hollow point a little bit, plenty of room behind it.

I considered making the hole bigger, it reduces weight a ton and requires a bigger tip. I have not used other materials because of the weight issue, the point of this projectile is a subsonic projectile that weighs a ton. What I think would work good is a soft lead front 1/4 of the projectile.

Your work looks really fantastic

Have you thought about putting powdered tungsten in the air pocket you create behind the delrin tip? The powdered tungsten is expensive but really cool.

Just a thought

This guy makes some really cool stuff you might look at his designs for some more ideas.

here are some 50 cal projos for the 510 whisper that look great too

Wow, I thought I was the only one doing this!

I have been turning bullets for my AR-15 and AK for a month or so now. Made several thousand 60 grain brass bullets, some with a cavity in the nose, most without - for my AR, I have probably shot about a thousand. Also made a handful of true .311 diameter bullets for my AK, all of my bullets have performed very well so far. In fact, we ran some of my .60 grain closed-nose bullets through my buddy's Noveske bolt-gun with an AWC can on it, and it grouped exactly as well as some Sierra Matchkings.......made me happy!

Anyway, I have been cheating a little bit though - I have been running my bullets on a Swiss-type CNC lathe with an automatic barloader and a resolution of .0001 - and my program in it's current state will make a bullet every 17 seconds.

I recently ordered a small bundle of .312 brass to make some 220-240 grain .308 bullets for the .300/221 barrel I just bought. Let me know if I can hel with any R&D!

Very cool sharky47! mine takes about 5 minutes each by the time I get around to measuring everything out. Will it turn them within .0001" when going that fast?

I think that in order to make an expanding subsonic bullet, this is not the method for doing it. Making match bullets however it could very well be a great way. How much would you charge to make a batch of .308 bullets? I was thinking 155gr brass bullets designed for my chamber(I'd design). They'd be flat base but still very long. I made some 168gr bullets but they are too long to stabilize in .308.

Most definatly! If I check the machine every half hour or so I can hold +-.0001, if I turn it on and walk away I can hold +-.0002 all day long without thinking about it.

Sure, I will make you some bullets so long as there are no legal issues with selling them to you! Not sure on the cost, really that major factor will be the current price of whatever material you want.
