I'll see if I can get some pics for you. Attaching the valve to the tube is pretty straight forward. I'm waiting for my new pistol gas tube right now to do the install myself.
The valve will be oriented on the new tube and drilled through with a 1/16" bit and then pinned. Once in place, the screw is removed and the tube drilled with a 1/8" bit. Put the screw back in and you're good to go.
I had my carbine set up with this adjustable tube in a mid-length and dissy style with a Colt .625 front sight base reamed to fit the carbine barrel profile and tapped for set screws for mounting the handguards.
EDIT: Oh yeah, just went through the excercise of shortening a carbine tube for the pistol location. It's definitely possible, but after giving it the good ol' college try, I ordered a new pistol tube from M1S ($17 shipped). I couldn't get the bends in the tube where I was happy with the alignment with the carrier key...
