Should work fine and it will help in noise reduction some just not as good as a true 22 caliber can. Make sure the machinist leaves enough metal in the rear of the bushing to but against the shoulder of the threads. Also make sure there is a shoulder on the bushing for the rear of the can to but against. Don't try to have it align on just the threads. One test tool that comes in handy for such things is a brass rod turned to fit the muzzle bore. Insert it in the bore with the adaptor and can attached and if the rod isn't centered in the exit hole of the can you need to correct something.
Also make sure that the can is rated for centerfire 30 caliber rifles. I have a light-weight can in 30 caliber made of aluminum that would never stand up to a .223 or a .308, but it is '30 caliber' It is dedicated to the Whisper alone.
