Why not a 308 subsonic or better yet my 300 WSM for that matter.... simple, because JDJone found came up with the best 308 subsonic cartridge in the 300 Whisper. Others can try and muddle but if your serious build a 300 Whisper and you'll understand. Besides experiementing with 240 SMK's get expensive. Thank you SSK and JD Jones for a job well done.

I've heard all sorts of stories about JD and I'm sure most of them are true, good and bad alike. That said he made a barrel for my TC that plan out shoots flies. I can also say that I'm a bit of a pain in the ass to deal with myself but everytime I called JD would take the time to talk to me about the Whisper and other TC issues. He gets a thumbs up from me and a thank you for all the fun that I've been having with the Whispers.

Hi Guys, I'm a new member here, I just wanted to say I have been making 7.62X39 subsonic ammo for a few years useing Winchester brass and the Sierra 180 grain .311 Spitzer bullet, it's made for the .303 Brit but works well for 7.62X39.

I found Reloader 7 and Winchester 748 gave me the best accuracy and would still cycle the action of my Colt AR in 7.62X39.

Thank you,

Court in FL.

I've recently built a 300/221 Fireball and am extremely pleased with it, however I started reading the 308 Subsonic thread on this forum and started playing with that as well. I've had really good luck with consistency using Hodgdon's Titegroup in 308, and it's intended for case capacities much smaller. It seems to be very consistent and very immune to positional issues (even at less that 1/4 case capacity in 308). I'm still working out bullet stabilization issues in this particular load but that's more of a bullet/twist issue. You guys might give it a try in these 7.62 x 39 loads, I think you might be pleased.

I tried Trailboss for my AR 16", carbine gas location with 220gr and 200gr. I filled past the shoulders into the neck and compressed greatly and they stayed sub-sonic and burned too fast for the action to work. 9.5 grs of Win 296 works great with 220gr RN and burns clean.

That's the post that I was looking for, and I already have 5744.

Is that still subsonic? Quick Load says 9.3 gr 5744 gives 1050 fps. I'm hoping that Quick Load is wrong, I substituted the 220 gr Hornady RN for the 225 gr OSB.

Outlaw State Bullets has me looking at the Roosky Whisper again.

Thanks for posting that Dick.
