riveted pomel bucks

2 riveted pomel bucks on e-bay 280209428271 and 280209429259. Damn pricey though.

One auction is for a test bayonet and as you can see in the photos is is damaged. These bayonets also had their pommels installed 180 degrees off so you cannot mount them on a rifle. The other bayonet appears to be a riveted pommel USMC bayonet but it does not have the correct scabbard.

There is something that I never understood about the riveted pommell USMC scabbard.
There is one picture in the Brett's book, showing one of these scabbard made by buck.
It is quite strange, with only two loops and a completly different web attachement.
Going by memory, in the picture shown in the above book the scabbard has a kind of "decal" (sorry, don't know the english word for it) on the front, and the caption says something about "simulate checkering".
From the picture, I would say this "decal" was very similar to the "sand paper", if you know what I mean.

I have one of the rivet pommel, buck 1993 USMC models..Unfortunately it does not have the correct scabbard with it...Mine has a mint scabbard that was the same scabbard as the 1991 buck USMC.

Carlo, your word decal is exactly correct. The scabbards had a stippled, or rough finish decal applied to the front to provide a rough surface for a better grasp.

Here's a picture of the bayonet and correct scabbard body. This scabbard does not have the correct cutter plate or hanger assembly.

I must say that my memory served me well, as the decal does, indeed, seem like "sand paper" or "glass paper" or whatever is its english name.
It is interesting to note that from the picture you can still see, under the decal, the sign where the snap was supposed to be located and (looking closely) a difference on the scabbard's plastic shape where the upper loops were originally.
Seems almost a factory last-minute modification made from a standard buck scabbard.

I should have elaborated a little more about the damaged bayonet. These M9s with the heat treated but unfinished blades were made by Buck specifically for in-house testing. Buck ran them through some serious testing, to the point of failure. I have a few of them and I think they are an interesting addition to my collection.
