I saw this bayonet on ebay the other day. It is a commercial Phrobis M9 bayonet that was made by Marto in Spain. The earliest blades did not have the "SPAIN" marking on them. Then they were using an ink stamp to apply the name under the stamping. Finally the had a die made that incorporated the "SPAIN" marking. It is not a prototype, just one of the earlier blades. The scabbard is not the original one for this bayonet but is an after-market piece. Unfortunately these do not seem to be as desireable as the US military bayonets, even thought there were far fewer of them made.
