newby here with new .50 project, Ideas??

I am building basically a .50 peacekeeper that will fit into the mag. of a cz 550 magnum action. i'm using 460 weatherby brass and a 650 grn .50 bmg projectile. I am considering suppressing the gun, but have to build it first. Will have a 22" chromoly barrel and a custom muzzle break that can be traded for a suppressor. Any body play with anything similar? I am looking for ideas, so I don't have to order a custom reamer. The total length on the round cannot exceed 3.80". Let the thoughts roll..........thanks for any help

Have you contacted any gunsmiths - or check with Die makers (Huntingtons for example) bet something that matches what you want is already out there.

500 NAI Long Magnum is too long
as is the
500 NAI Short Magnum
505 Barnes Supreme is close but OAL is 4.00
510 Wells is 0al 3.644

does this help?

close

the two rounds that are going to be the closest to what I need I think are the 500 a-square, and the 50.-460 bushman. neither are exact, but I think the a-square will come the closest to being correct. the one thing I have realized is this thing is gonna be heavy! Even with a barrel length of around 20 inches the rifle is still gonna weigh about 13 pounds. But the calculated muzzle energy is unbelievable. supersonic this thing will be about 90% of a .50 bmg. i don't have the calculations for sub-sonic yet but they should be pretty good.

Have look at the 12.7x57 Anthis (the french copy of the 500 whisper):
Clymer has the drawings of the reamer. And I think that rcbs makes the dies as well. You can check out http://www.stopsontfm.com/ as well.

Good luck.

thanks d-mon

the 12.7x57 anthis is just the trick. It maximizes the action that I have to the fullest extent. Which is exactly what I wanted to do. i wanted to use a 50 bmg bullet on a 460 case with the most room in the case that I could get and it does the trick. i found out that pacific tool has a better deal on the reamers( almost half price) and they will change anything I want to for no extra cost. they did tell me about a 12.7x57 russian round they are making reamers for that is based off of a rimmed case that was pretty interesting, but it didn't have the powder capacity of the 460 wm. I basically boiled down to the same as the 510 whisper based off the 338 lapua case. I made a couple calls on the anthis caliber today and found out lots!!!! This thing is capable of chunking a 700grn bullet at around 2300-2600fps if loaded correctly, and they still don't know the max charge yet. Hell, he thought they could get into the 27-28 range, but that would mean maxing the case out or running out of room, which ever came first............thanks again

12.5 x 70mm Schuler/500 Jeffery Rimless

After reviewing cartridges I always thought the best case to start with a subsonic .510 calibre project was one of the old rimless cartridges like the 12.5 x 70mm Schuler/500 Jeffery Rimless. The idea being trimming these back to length, and setting the shoulders back to allow a 30/06 bolt action to load. That way you could save the cost of an expensive magnum action or opening up the boltface and spend more of your money on reamers, barrels and cases which you'll have to do anyway.

I don't think a Winchester 284 case is big enough to expand to .510 but it might be an interesting project for the new 25 WSSM case. I believe the brass in the WSSM range is extremely strong for the high pressure loading. Now what about the 50 AE Desert Eagle round loaded in a bolt action with a 750 gn Hornay A-Max to subsonic levels, surely that would make a light all day walking rifle? The only thing is you really want on sholder on the case to headspace on. I must be due to win the Lottery.

SSK .50 American Eagle?

Not sure if mine qualifies, but had a SSK 11" stainless Encore barrel in .50 American Eagle. It used the 50 AE case. Shot 700 grain 50 BMG AP bullets accurately at subsonic. Figured I was going to shoot only subsonic, so didn't need a big case. I did shoot some cast bullets from my 500 Linebaugh through it, and would be a good thumper for hunting!

Who did you call to get this information, I'm interested in one as well.

Did you make any headway on finding dies or loading information?
