parts / backlash
There are, a lot of parts around, just gotta do some digging. Tools 4 cheap
in Boston Ma has a lot of new and used. Tool holder >must be compound
rest backlash. There is a few things there I would say the most common
on these are they do get wear right behind the dial, thats a simple fix if
you have another lathe. I had that play also, my temporary fast fix was to
feed in few turns and I ll bet you will see a gap between the dial and the
compound. I had like .030. (at this point you can move it by hand back and
forth) so I removed the dial whatch out there is a key and I filled the gap
with washers made out of a milk container, put it back together and now
there is -0- slop. Somewhere somebody had an article on correctly machining
this. I wouldnt loose sleep about backlash, lathes are born with it. Myself it
doesnt effect anything I do. Being terrible with wording, once there is a
pressure point -as you are turning facing threading (making chips) this
backlash dont mean a thing, as long as your gibs are just snug but not
tight. Im way better showing inperson than words. Aways thought machines
are like man and machine acting as one. Keep it oiled, keep it clean and
have fun. sam
