The question is why bother with a 6.5 subsonic instead of a 300 Whisper or BLK? Terminal energy in any subsonic is limited by bullet weight (E=1/2 MV^2) where M is mass and V is limited to under the speed of sound. Sure, a 22, 6.5, or 7mm can be shot subsonic but what do they offer to make them worth the effort?
Why a 30 for that matter? That's simply because a 300 Whisper/BLK can fit in an AR-15 with just a barrel swap using relatively inexpensive low drag bullets like the 220 SMK.
In a bolt action 458 or 510 caliber subsonics may make sense. Terminal energy can be 2 to 3 times more than using the 300 whisper/BLK.
