New to loading 300 whisper

I have some 223/556 brass I would like to make into 300 whisper/fireball. I bought a two die set from Redding in 300/221 Fireball. Would the three die set from Redding be better or another manufacturer?

I have always loaded pistol ammo. I have never done rifle ammo. How do I set up the dies to size and seat the bullet properly? I will be using a single stage press.

Like I said above I am new to this type of shooting.

Loading 300 wtf

Some like the hobby of making their own brass. I prefer to buy my 300 whisper brass from Hoser here. Hoser has great brass reasonably priced.

You can google 300 whisper reloading and cut and paste ten - fifteen pages of load data from accurate arms, sierra, and others. Search this forum. Lots of information on different bullets/powder combinations and catridge overall lengths.

What rifle do you have and are you primarily interested in supersonic or subsonic reloading?

The Redding two die set should work just fine. I have Redding, Forster and SSK. For AR/M-16 ammo I use Redding FL size and a Redding seat die. For bolt gun ammo I use a modified Redding neck die and Forster in-line seater.

As far as resizing the brass goes, you can normally screw the resize die down to touch the shellholder. That should resize the case enough.

Pay close attention to where you put the expander button. If it is too high you will shear off necks. Too low and you will bend the rod.

You do not have to bell the necks like you would for pistol ammo. For the most part you do not have to crimp.

Most of the powders you will use for the 300 are really slow pistol powders.
