Cast bullets for the Whisper??

Hey Everyone,

I am new here, but I have had a T/C 300 Whisper barrel for a while now, but I want to load some cast bullets for plinking with. Have any of you all shot any cast bullets form your Whispers?? If so waht brand of bullet, powder, exc. I really like the Whisper in my 10" Contender barrel!! As for what I have loaded so far: 175gr. Sierra Palma Match HPBT shot well, but so far the most accurate are Hornady Softpoint Flatbase, with 17gr. of H110 in Rem 221 fireball cases, and Rem. 7&1/2 primers. When I do MY part I can get sub MOA at 100 yards and 2" groups at 200yards. Thats with me shooting off of a Hornady front rest, and a rear sandbag. I also hav a NC Star 4x32mm pistol scope. It HAD a lighted ret., but the 300 Whisper broke the knob off for that feature while shooting some Nosler 125 bt loaded with 19.5gr. of H110!! LOL So I red locktited the 4 TINY screws that held on the brightness knob back on, and screwed the HECK out of them! LOL No lighted ret, but still works as normal.

I will post all of my load data as I come up with it, and how they perform as well.

Thanks for any help!,
Drew

I like that question, and I was wondering the same.

As we know that classic jacketed bullets (sierra matchkings,hornadys...etc) do not expend on impact at subsonic velocitie, why not shooting cast bullets (180gr or 190gr)?
They should deform upon impact. But I do not know how accurate they could be in a 1in 8 twist barrel?

Did any body tried something in that direction?

Fun Times

I have a Rem 788 with a 17 inch PacNor, 1in8 twist that I shoot the Lyman 311291, as cast (with the gas check added) out of. The lube is a homemade beeswax and lithium based grease mix. I use 5.5 to 6 grains of AA#7, Rem. BR primers, no crimp, bullet in the lands. This is subsonic at 5000 ft elevation at around 50-60 degrees F. The cast mix is 25% range bullets melted to 75% wheel weights, this is around 13-14 bh. The bullets will go through a 6 inch post at 1400 fps without deforming much, at 1000 fps depending what you hit in the backstop, you could almost load them again. I have not put this on paper but it is within minute of ground squirrel at 90 yards with the suppressor.
TOOOO much FUN.
