221/300 Fireball build
If you are planning to use the barrel as 16" length, you may or may not move the gas port.(As a rule of tumble, as far out as possible)
My M1S is working ok as is. Your`s may not.
If you shorten it up it is mandatory to move it.
SSk use "the pistol location", and if he does, everyone must???
If you sell the dam thing, it better work. And then pistol location is ok.
If you like to play around, use carbine location. It is the best thing.
Turn, or not to turn?
A gasblock is slided(let`s say on a 0.75" barrel) down the barrel.
Where the gasblock is supposed to stay, the barrel is "a little thicker".
You pin it, or use a setscrew to secure it.
Because of that(a little thicker) turn it down.
But there is a lot of ways leading to Rome.
I suppose you do not want to "reblue" your barrel. And because of that, do not want to turn it down.
One way is to machine a gasblock to fit your barrel & then split it in half.
Mount it using screws.
Weld.
Yes you can weld. MIG or TIG.
Me, I would TIG
When I say that, I would not MIG/TIG my own barrel.
One way is to thread the hole, and secure it with a setscrew.
Punch mark between screw & barrel. It will not move.
Make sure all the burrs is out of the barrel, and make double sure the setscrew dont stick into your bore.
Have a nice day
