Deer autopsy
After my son and i killed a button buck at 253 yds on the first day i shot one
at 80 yards, it was facing me and getting jumpy. Shot in in the chest, she went right down and was kicking really hard for about 6 seconds and then she got up and ran off showing no sign of injury.
We missed follow up shots, went to where the deer was hit and there was a 5 inch circle of blood, the deer did not bleed afer it got up, no snow on the ground and lost what i can assume is a dead deer.
Last sat I shot a big doe at about 89 yards, broadside but quartering towards me, aimed for center lungs, heard it hit the then trailed it and the other 3 and found blood, it went onto another peice of property where the owner was hunting. I back off and returned to my stand not wanting to mess up his hnting. The porperty owner tracked down the wounded deer and shot and killed it as it jumped out of its bed. His shot hit the left shoulder and exited the neck. He came and told me and then helped me drag it out of the woods.
When having the deer skinned i noticed a hole in the left rear leg. Cut up the meat last night, geting to the shot ham it had a small entry holeand severe damage, managed to save about 10 percent of it. Was looking at the would and discovered that 7 to 9 inches of the femur was totally disintergrated, digging around I found the 240 SMK that had hit the bone going sideways. The 240 SMK went into the rib cage and exited the stomach and entered the rear leg. Bullit is bent somewhat and had a deep impression midlength of the bone going in nearly 1/3 the diameter.
My son tagged a buck this year that was shot with a 200 gr. barnes out of a 300 win Short mag. It hit both leg bones and just broke then, going almost 3 times faster than the 240 SMK.
Unbeleiveble damage by the wisper. I took some photos, will try to up load them if I can
