Your favorite optic for the 300Whisper

Ya'll ain't making the decision any easier.....


Anyone using a BDC type reticle? I'm positive that the smaller circles will not correlate to the respective advertised yardage that is advertised by the manufacturer. But I could develop a load and figure out where the bullet would pass through the circle!

Reason I'm asking....just found a Nikon 3-9x40mm BDC laying in the back of the closet.

I have a Schmidt and Bender Short Dot 1-4 on my PDW AR platform. Absolutely awesome, but ran out of room on the dials so for anything 75 yards and in you have to aim high. Beautiful setup!

Well i was thinking the trajectory of a subsonic round would be very close to that of a .22LR 40 gr. so I have put a BSA sweet 22 6x18 on my 300 blck out bolt gun and hope to try and prove my theory at the range in the morning. I will try and post pics of my results.

I too was wondering about the BSA sweet 22 and how it would work with subsonics. What I found is its not even close. I sighted in at 50 yds with a load running about 1000fps and going out to a 75 yd target was closer to the 100yd marks on the scope. BUT if you get the older style sweet 22, the one with the 3 removable turrets, Sportsmans guide still sells them for 40.47 if you are a member http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=644012 you can set the scope up to run subsonics or full loads with just a quick change of the turret. What I did was take one turret and mark it with my subsonic load, Using a black magic marker I blacked out all the markings on the turret(since they did work out) except for the 50 yd mark. I sighted in at 50 yds and reset the turret so the 50yd mark matched the mark on the scope base. From there I went on to sighting in the scope in at 75/100/125 yds marking the turret as I went along. I'll do the same for my full power load with another turret. Switching from one distance to the other was fast and easy by just aligning to my marks and the scope seemed to hold zero at each distance pretty well. I marked the number of clicks it takes from the 50 yd mark to point to which the turret bottoms out (my base line) on the top of the turret. Switching from subsonic to full power loads should be just a matter of setting the scope to the base line of the turret I want to use and click up to my distance.

I have been using a fixed 4X Pentex Gameseeker scope on my 50 THUMPER. It gives me plenty of field of view at 500 yards to hold over and still see the target. I have an ATN 1st generation night vision scope on my 338 THUMPER. I am currently looking for something for my 300 Blackout/Whisper.

On my bolt action i am using a 3 x 10 weaver grand slam tactical with Mil dot recticle,, available only from midway. On sale $299 every other month. Wish burris mad a signature ring for the CZ527. With subsonic 240 Smk zeroed at 100 yards the top of bottom post is right on at 200 yds,,, got nearly one full revolution of windage left. 1/10 mil adjustment =.36 inches per click nice adjustments and big uncovered knobs that dont move on their own. Deer season opens monday,,,cant wait

Hawke Endurance with MAP8 reticle. Reticle is designed for subsonic .22. Each tick mark is 25 yards give or take an inch on 9x with my Subloads. Cost at EABCO is $59.

Glass is decent (not a Schmidt & Bender)
2nd Focal plane so 9x is where the reticle is true - 4.5x is double the distance
One Piece tube seems durable enough
Free software is available to calibrate it to your load
Workmanship is on par with the price - reticle has a black squiggle in bottom left of the scope that is probably a metal shaving from the tube

EABCO offers a no shoot inspection period so I can't complain too much.

I am very happy with it for the price. Wouldn't pay more than $150 for it, but for half that shipped it is a good scope.

IOR 2.5-10FFP. The MP8 reticle is perfect, allows me to dope the shot on the reticle. At the bottom, 2.5 isn't actually 2.5 (tunnel effect) but more like 4X.

For Whispers, I prefer FFP optics, so I can do the drop on the reticle at any power.
