I'm about to use one of theirs in a 300-221.

Well, not one of theirs exactly, but a Spikes Mfg bolt. I have to say though, I have had issues with mine. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, the Spikes bcg is at least coated by failzero, but it's probably the same part. I had some really big issues with mine locking up my AR, hard. That is, I'd close the bolt, a round would pick up off the mag but the bolt wouldn't fully close. The bolt/ammo/chamber was locked up tight. It would take me putting the safety on, going to the concrete benches, and slamming the butt of the gun while holding the charging handle down. If I did this hard enough the round would pop out of the chamber. Now, to be fair this was not a nato chamber, it was a Wylde which is between Nato and 223. It allows the use of either round, and keeps 556 a little more accurate. This specifically was a barrel that was to be used at Camp Perry so it's not crap. I double checked my ammo and chamber with gauges. Unless the ammo was goddamn perfect (most factory ammo could lock it up, so we're talking the best of the best) it would seize. Very frustrating.

So I check the spikes/failzero coated bolt next, against an LMT. Spikes says without a doubt their bolt is perfect milspec but can't give me a dimension to look for. I check with a friend who makes some calls and finds the true military spec for m16 bolt face dimensions. Turns out the LMT was perfect and the Spikes was .004 too short which happened to be .002 away from m16 tolerance. I had my machinist wipe .002 from the face and it worked perfectly. It's ran like a top ever since.

Moral of the story, is that if Spikes was willing to work with me, instead of telling me it was user error. I might not be relaying this story. Since I had to fix it on my own, here I am, warning you of what to possibly look out for.

That's my experience, ymmv. I'll try mine in a 300BLK/300-221 gun but I already know it's in spec and now works on my 223 tight chambered gun.

Interesting to hear as usually hear that Spike's has great customer service and is touted as one of the better AR options on other boards!

Let me know if you get any additional lee-way with your 300-221 loads vs. a standard carrier.
