Colt m7 I picked up.

Recently at a fun show I picked up a bayo that is marked Colt on the blade and came with scabard marked "US M8A1 MADE IN GERMANY". The blade has a little pitting so I had hoped to blast it and then gunkote it to prserve it, but otherwise seems to be in the best of condition. My problem is it doesnt have the standard handle like the m7 Im used to. Its solid and appears to be pressed on. Quarterbore, you seemt to be extremely knoxledgable about these blades, so if you or anyone else could help Id very much appreciate it.

I might be able to help you out. Sounds like an German Eickhorn to me, and if I remember right, the pommel might/should be secured by a phillips head screw or Allen/hex key screw?? (if its on tight, use some penetrating oil, or it might be locktited in -that requires some heat to neutralise, but that will damage the grip).

Anyways, if you can loosen the screw, remove it, then remove the pommel, and the grip should slide off with a bit of resistance, if not use a rubber mallet and 'semi-gently' tap it off.

Let us know how you go, and post a pic of your finished product.

Cheers,

Wes

the Colt marked bayo

I also have one of those Colt-marked bayonets. I got it from pre-ban arms.com as it was the only bayo I have seen that fits a 16" carbine

It is actualy a very sturdy blade, although on the slim side.

Razor sharp, and holds an edge very well.

Although I like the fact it fits my LE Colt, it is not the bayo/knife/tool the M7 is.

you can see it by cutting /pasting this link -----> http://prebanarms.com/detail.asp?product_id=a03

Ok, I tried hammering the grip off and its a no-go. My new problem is that rust forms on this thing faster than I can wipe it off. The finish looks fairly decent, but its obviously not parkerizing or anything even remotely durable. Since I cant get the grip off, whats a viable way to keep this fine looking blade from rusting into crap?
