I got the other PTG reamer that was on special as well.It is a338-7mmbr with a throat set up for the 300gr Sierra MK. i have not used it yet, but, as soon as finances are better I will have the project rolling.
I'd wondered where it went , I called back to buy the second one thinking to get the throat reground for a bore-rider (lathe turned) bullet .... and it had vanished.
Spook, how does the 6.5 twist work for the 260gr. bullets, could you run the 300 smks out of it without problems? Thanks, and great looking build!
I couldnt imagine it working any better,300's shoot equally as accurate....just 2 1/2 inches lower. I've been using Rock Creek 5R Barrels lately and like 'em a lot... not crazy about their wait times though
Spook,
What a nice looking rifle. I'm interested in your point job on the stock. Is this custome paint job, or one that McMillan does. What colours were used?
I got a set of 338BR dies from CH4D about 3 weeks back...they said it was the last set in stock. I also got what they said was the last set of 510W dies in stock. They have a set of 300 W dies in progress and I've got a set of those on backorder.
PTG didn't have any reamers in stock for the .338 or the 510 so I had to special order. The 338 reamer came in last week and they said the 510 is a couple weeks off. The reamer looks great.
Now I just need my rifle to show up, it just got bumped another 30 days. Also still looking for blanks. I'd really like a Lilja stainless but he doesn't do the twist rate I need for the 338 BR or the 510. Looks like PacNor is about the only ones who do the faster twists in both of those. Last problem is finding the 7BR brass....its seasonal production and it looks like Remington is about it for supply. Anyone found another supplier???
I'm building up barrels in both cals for a Desert Tactical SRS. Its coming in 338 lapua and I'll have to buy the bolt for the 243/308 to have the setup for the 338BR. I'm thinking a swap barrel rifle will be nice to have in order to keep the trigger, scope and feel the same and just have to deal with different dope in the scope.
Lapua 6BR brass is great to work with when necking up.
My 30BR uses both virgin brass and worn out 6BR comp brass and both lots are still going strong. I think I lost only one or two during the necking up process. I went cautiously via 7mm the first time - now I go straight to 30 cal with appropriate amounts of lube!!!
