What the:

Did anyone else notice a pre patent 184 just sold on ebay a day or two ago and went for $1025.00. I noticed nothing special enough about that knife to justify that price. Maybe I am missing something,,, any one know why it brought such a high price tag? Ebay item number was 130348124512

I think one of two things happened here, with the end result of the winning bidder getting screwed. The bids jumped from $400 to $1000. It could be that two bidders who wanted to protect themselves from last minute bids threw in high bids, with the one with the highest bid regretting it. Or the other possibility involves shill bidding. I'm always suspicious when the bidders identifications are kept private. What is the seller afraid of with the bidders identifications being listed? Makes me think that maybe someone is bidding up the auction.

**slightly off topic here**

Hey investrepro --- bought a 184 from you earlier this month on eBay. Just wanted to say thanks again for a smooth transaction and a great knife. Your eBay seller feedback is already great, and thought a little more in this forum wouldn't hurt.

As mentioned in our correspondance, I bought a NIB Gerber BMF when I was a kid and my buddy bought a 184 at the same time. This was probably '89 or '90 (not totally sure) but those two knives saw plenty of action together. Anyway, I've thought about adding a 184 to my collection for 20 years and now finally have one to call my own. I'm quite happy that the knife, while in good condition, has been used as I plan to use it myself and would be reluctant to do so if it were still NIB.

I've got a picture of the 184 and BMF together in my latest blog posting about survival kit assembly at http://mcpgearblog.blogspot.com/ .

Anyway, thanks again....
