Gas tube for pistol position???

OK Guys ...

The BRO upper/lower are in. The lower is built and seems fine

The forward assist is in the upper and the rail nut is in.

NOW I have a problem! The pistol length gas tube I have appears to be bent in the wrong place to mate to the tp555 gas block properly. Pretty much cannot get it short enough in over all length. Seems to be abt 1/4" too long. I followed instructions and removed ~3/4" of the front of the tube. I have the tube into the block until it starts binding on the walls of the tube distorted from the bend. The tube appears to be into the block just beyond the last allen screw that holds it in.

Ideas?

How do you rebend a tube?

Help would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Would also appreciate sourcing information for tubes that work with tp555's gas block. The one I have is from Del-Ton and it's bend is too far forward.

I cut more off of mine, then put the gas block in a vice and started bending till I got it to bottom out, then bent the tube till it fit the gun. That little tube is very stoute and hard to bend.

I had a similar issue when I mounted my tp555 gas block in the pistol position. I didn't have to cut the tube down further than recommended but it took a fair amount of prying and bending on the tube to get everything alined (gas tube, barrel nut, upper, and gas key). My gas tube was from a local gun shop, I don't recall the brand, but I think you will have the same issue regardless of the brand you choose. As far as I know they all use the same contour.

It took alot of tweaking but I finally got mine bent properly so everything alined. Those tubes are tougher than they look!

As a first step I whacked both ends of a mid length tube that was laying around. Got it to fit nicely.

Test firing revealed that the rifle was short stroking. Would eject nicely but was not stripping the next round out of the magazine. Probable cause was having cut off the end that goes into the gas key. It is bulged a little bit to give better fit inside the gas key. Cutting that off probably results in a poor seal getting less work out of the gas coming through the tube.

Have a tube ordered from M1S which is supposed to be the correct length ... but they won't ship before 1/4/2010 ;-(

Guess I'll have to play with something else for a while.

Mike

A new build does need some firing to slick up the parts.
