Hey everyone,

I bent two flats yesterday following the directions under the jig rental post and I'm not sure if the outcome is good enough to use to build a parts kit rifle. You will notice that the top bend (done with hammer) are not even and that my first flat is not completely square on the bottom front of the receiver. I measured from the sides of the jig out to the end of the flat in three spots on both flats to center it and they still came out uneven. Is the difference in rails acceptable for a build? I just received my ak-builder DVD but have not had a chance to watch it any advice you might be able to give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I have attached some photo's of the two flats after they were bent.

I split this off the jig rental thread so more people will find it....

I am still at work (yea 9PM --->> )

as I said in my e-mail originally, the flat i had built up was square on the bottom better then yours but as long as you can fit your parts it likely isn't a huge issue. Given you still have the jig, can you put it back in the gug and press it down more to get it square? I assume the bottom plate must have not been tight enough to allow this to happen?

As for the upper rails, when you fit the receiver to your bolt you will have some material to work with to get things centered better... Do you happen to have an AK or finished Ak receiver to compare yours to? as long as you have enough rail to support the carrier after you get things cut to size you should be fine...

Now, are the rest of your holes centered OK? if your upper rails are off I would worrt that the rest could be off too? I am also curious if this has to do with the rounded bottom... my flats didn't have these issues when I used either of the two jigs before I sent them out...

I could do that. They are coming out with a revised version due to some material being edited out accidently. I still have not had a chance to watch the DVD but I am going to watch it today. I will post a review here. We can work something out on lending it out. I forgot to mention the second flat I bent had a flat base versus the first one but the rails came out exactly the same as the first. I will measure holes to see if they are even.
