Pistol primers & .300 Whisper

As the component shortage drags on, I find myself thinking of ways to preserve things that are hard to come by. One of those things has, in the past, been small rifle primers. Seems like a guy could get away with using a small pistol primer on subsonic .300 Whisper loads, & maybe a small magnum pistol primer for supersonic loads. Opinions?
Also, if anyone thinks my screen name is immature, offensive, or reflects badly on the shooting community, speak up & I will re register.

small pistol primers can be used for subsonic loads out of a bolt action. Using them in an AR will result in pierced primers as the cups are too soft for this application. Additionally I would not use any pistol primer for super-sonic loads--the pistol cups are not able to handle the pressures.

Have you tried trading with other shooters in your area?
I've done several deals with stuff I have plenty of for stuff I want.

Small pistol is about all I use in my TC. Was having problems setting the Rem. BR primers off. Need to look into a heavier spring...But I don't shoot many at a time, and nothing maxed out....

SPP's

Are Magnum Small Pistol Primers to much or will the standard Pistol primers do just as good?
Thanks,
L.

I think the first step to fixing your problem is admitting you have a problem.

I have found it all depends on what bullet I am shooting. Used some on 180"s ok, but had to reduce load slightly. On 165's I could not tell a lot of difference with what I was using....Have not tried it on 220 and 240's...I started using spp's by pure accident. Had a lot of small primers I bought years ago and thought they were srp's. Thought I would try them since the rem. 7.5 weren't working too good. Since I was starting with reduced charge and low pressure, it turned out ok. Reloading for 30 yrs. and still messed up...It was ok in my guns, but I do not shoot AR's.YET!
