I'd like to use a Rem 700 action just so I can swap out parts with my other bolt actions just in case something breaks.
This rifle will almost exclusively fire subsonic 240 SMKs. So I'm guessing I'd like to have a 1:8 twist 16" barrel, (mabye a 1:7.5 so I have the option to fire heavier bullets if I can find them?)
Needs to be threaded 5/8x24 at the muzzle, an internal magazine, and a hogue "overmolded" stock

Nothing fancy - I just want a dependable, weatherproof, quiet rifle.
I was thinking about buying a .223 Rem 700 with the hogue stock for about $600, then having it rebarreled by pac-nor, but the more I think about it - I wonder if I can't get it for cheaper when it's all said and done built from scratch from a smith here. Instead of just wasting a good .223 barrel.
So what do you all think?
Any smiths that you can recommend?
Here's the most important part: I'm impatient. And I only have a few months left in the states.
So who can do it in a reasonable timeframe? (Weeks not months)
Thanks!
ETA: I mean .300 Fireball, I have a ton of .223 brass and I'd like to use the instead.
