Wow, I started looking at barrels and I'm overwhelmed by ...of all things ...the contours. Can anyone give some suggestions here? I want the rifle to be relatively light, but I don't think something along the lines of a pencil barrel will be practical, especially since it will be threaded.

Look for "Spook" ... great guy and really knows his way round the Whisper....

Built my last Whisper with a Mike Rock barrel (rock creek) nothing hits like a rock.

I like Lilja barrels. Dan and Virgina have always treated me right and their barrels always provide great accuracy and long life.

The smaller the number the lighter the barrel.

A #4 or #5 will be easy to carry around, yet still shoot will off bags or a bi-pod.
