It all depends on which M7 you have. Some have a screw holding the pommel in place. This is fairly obvious by looking at the end of the pommel. Most have the tang extending through the pommel and then the end of the tang is peened over, locking the pommel in place. I have also seen them welded in place, but I don't think this is a common or from the factory method.
