SSK Industries upper

I'm getting into 300 Whisper with a SSK Industries upper I just bought off gunbroker. I've read some post that make it look like SSK may have a little tighter chamber. Will SSK uppers chamber whisper ammo made using 223 brass? I would rather size 223 than buy 221 brass to form.

I have two SSK AR uppers and a SSK CZ bolt-gun....all three work with .223 based whisper brass, I'm using the JD Jones/Hornady whisper die sets.....the loaded ammo that I bought from SSK was made from Lake City .223 brass...

had heard that the early chambers were more .221 specific.....

hope this helps,

kurtz

That helps, thanks. I have quite a bit of Lake City brass. I was hoping I could use it.

The brass I bought from SSK when I bought my Contender barrel was made from military 5.56 brass. I've had no problems shooting either .221 brass or cut down 5.56 brass in my barrel.

Finally got to try shooting my SSK upper with brass I made from Lake City once fired brass. None of it would chamber. Loaded outside neck diameter was a few thousands bigger. Ammo I reloaded from Corbon made from Winchester brass worked fine. Guess I need to find some commercial brass to form from.

What was the trim length on the LC brass you made?

I trimmed to 1.355" Loaded Corbon made from Winchester brass, and what I reloaded from that, measured 0.330" OD at the mouth above the shoulder. Loaded LC brass measured 0.335" same measurement.
