possible new 300 whisper canidate

Thinking of building a new whisper, i was going to do a sbr on my nfa lower but realised i couldnt hunt with it locally. has anyone tried building a whisper on a savage model 25? they seem to be detachable mag and designed around the 223 so it seems to be a pretty viable canidate.

just looking at the action i am wondering if they are pinned in like the savage mark 2 rimfires or are they screwed in since no bbl nut is evident?


other ideas would be a savage model 10,110,12,or 16 perfer stainless action and bbl but not manditory. would like a cz but the rings seems to be quite high at 20 moa. or a possible winchester model 70 if i can find a used 223/221 cheap and local

any other ideas besides a charles daily x or similar?

Try the HOWA 1500. You will be happy. Spook turned me on to the HOWA's and I must say he was absolutely right. 20 moa picatinny bases are available and feeding, extraction and ejection are 100%. My CZ527 Whisper was probably 90% reliable for ejection, my HOWA has NEVER failed to feed, extract or eject properly. I picked up a .223 barreled action and sent it to Douglas Barrels for the rebarrel job. Three week turnaround and the work was done right.

Search the archives for info on the Rem 700 and its issues with ejection. There is a lot of info there.

I've had fantastic luck with the CZ527's and never had any problems with extraction or ejection. They are accurate and have fantastic triggers. I really like the single set trigger. The scope rings that come with the rifles are great too.

I have no experience with the Howa's.

If your NFA AR is an SBR you can just swap out the upper for a longer barrel to hunt with. If its an MG you might be limited by your states hunting regs....
might give you some other options.

I've used 700's in several calibers but never 300/221. I didn't think a bolt gun could have much in the way of issues cycling as I've never experienced a problem with the standard caliblers.

The HOWA uses an AR15/M-16 style extractor and is 100% reliable for feeding, extraction and ejection. The problem is the really short, stubby whisper cases. They have a tendancy to fall off the extractor before they hit the ejector on the Remingtons and some other actions. What you end up with is an empty case sitting on top of the top round in the magazine. Even my CZ527/Mauser action wasn't 100% for ejection. My HOWA has NEVER failed to feed/extract/eject. Spook told me about the HOWA action for the whisper and he was spot on. They just plain work.

Thanks , I am gonna make a few calls today and see what i can do. Local dealer has a decent price on a howa 223 and mabye it can be a new canidate for me:-)
