Nice picture!
I must say that my memory served me well, as the decal does, indeed, seem like "sand paper" or "glass paper" or whatever is its english name.
It is interesting to note that from the picture you can still see, under the decal, the sign where the snap was supposed to be located and (looking closely) a difference on the scabbard's plastic shape where the upper loops were originally.
Seems almost a factory last-minute modification made from a standard buck scabbard.
