guy was using h110 for subsonics and split his barrel. I figured this would be a good discussion topic. Here is my take on it.
I have always heard that h110 (and lil gun) was very tempormental and should never be loaded lower than 10 percent of the max. This guy was loading approx. 9 grains of powder which is a 35% reduction. I have seen load data suggesting this is a safe load but Hodgdon used to recomend against this. Apparently this is the reason why. Dont ake this wrong, I am not flaming this guy in any way I am hoping we can have a good discussion on the safety of using H-110 in reduced loads and maybe prevent any future mishaps.

I know the owner of FR quite well and I have even bought a gun or two off him years ago as he lives in my part of Pennsylvania... I am pretty sure he is also a member here...

As far as what went wrong there... well, it is pretty clear that you can't lower the pressure so much that the bullet doesn't leave the barrel or you will have some serious problems...

He got really lucky that he only had to replace a barel or upper!

This thread probably should be called H110 safety. I read that article and it is kinda scary. My test loads for tomorrow are 150 GR speers with 16 - 18 grains of powder (20 rounds each in .5 grain incriments). I guess I am looking for a little reassurance that my loads will be safe. You never can tell with wildcats.
When I showed that article to a buddy he told me he has had h110 stick bullets in his barrel (357 Mag) before. Any one else have simular experiences. Peronally I have used it in 22 hornet and 44 mag with no probs.

That's why I use 2400. Similar burn class, but you can reduce the powder charge with it.
