So I wanna do another 300 whisper, only different.
I've got a .300-221 fireball contender that is intended to only be shot supersonic, 12" twist barrel I believe. I've used it for medium sized game with 130 grain bullets SSP Hornady bullets without issue. It just works, very little drama involved, low recoil, low noise, etc.
now then, I want to build (have built) a suppressed 300 whisper rifle. What I need from you folks is some advice on the suppressors, and any other pertinent information that you might want to share or suggestions on project build. Not yet sure of the platform, remington 700, CZ 527, Savage, or TC contender or encore. I am leaning more towards the bolt action so that I can have my accuracy gunsmith build it. Suppressors, what kind and how much do these cost. I've never done the paperwork for the tax stamp, so I'll need to do that in MD. I've got Redding dies, have formed brass and reloaded for the cartridge, but only with 118 grain benchrest bullets and 130 grain hunting bullets. I've done some research, read the posts here and am hoping to get the right suppressor for the job. Not sure how much this project will cost, I'll probably need to order a reamer for it as well as a barrel. |

built mine on a Savage action. very accurate. cans run 300 to 1500, depends on a lot of factors. I went with AAC Cylone for mine. dealer starts paperwork, you have a cleo sign off or a trust, send it in and wait about 2-3months. |
Can you have a suppressor in MD? I really don't know much about your states gun laws but I am under the impression they are fairly restrictive. I'd check that out first.

I went with the TC with a SSK 1:8 twist for heavy bullets and
AAC 762sd for the can. I'am having a 12oz can made by Degroat http://armamentsales.com/ just for the whisper.http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...persmall-1.jpg |
I have a swr omega 30 on mine. But rember you can also use a 9mm can and have a double use "as well as the 30 such as 308 or 300 mag". I originally planned to use my swr trident 9 on mine but it has found itself on my g17 and 4" 9mm upper instead :)

For subsonic use, most .30 caliber cans will be overly long and heavy, as they will be designed for full-powered .308 or larger.
If you want something that is a little more flexible, subsonic .300 Whisper sounds pretty good in a 9mm can. Check with the manufacturer first, of course. SWR told me there would be no problem using my Trident 9 with subsonics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...J/DSC07203.jpg Or you could use a full-sized subgun can too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...J/DSC02550.jpg |
guy named James Degroat i believe, makes an aluminum can just for the 300 whisper. course the 9mm can is more versatile.
http://www.armamentsales.com/ it's not shown on the sight. he talked about them here http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/index.php |
I have used my AAC Evo9 and the Trident 9 but my AAC 762sd was the
winner for Quiet with both of my whisper guns; The 12oz 300 whisper can from J Degroat will be the can dedicated for the light super quiet combo. |
I'm playing with the idea of having a mini 14 reworked into a 300 whisper. What kind of input can you guys give as far as accuracy improvements, suppressors, and smiths to do the work.
