correct me if im wrong here, but this 7ark is nothing more than a 6.5 grendel necked up to 7mm? and the reason for doing this was what again?

You're wrong. If you were to follow threads on the 7ARk on other forums, or talk to the designer you would understand the advantages, excellent cartridge.
