Blade is patterned after Swiss Model 1899/11 Schmidt-Rubin; saw made after Swiss Pioneer Model 1878 (Jantzen page 186). Material is quarter inch 1095 flatbar, inch and a half wide. View shows fixed bayonet removed and fully disassembled, with both military and civilian parts positioned. Modularity allows disassembly, and parts interchange and/or replacement. Parts interchange allows option to change utility from civilian to military, at owner's discretion. The M-9 bayonet provides these same valuable characteristics. The patented concept can be applied to a wide rage of fixed blade cutlery, and is not limited to this particular example. The concept is very well suited for units up to 31 inches in overall length. Application of the concept to a bayonet hilt does not in and of itself amount to invention (neither does commercial success). By the way, Gentlemen, the original M-9 manufacturer got it all wrong; my blade may or may not be for fighting---it all depends on the circumstances at hand. Bayonet positioned beside interchangeable parts. Threaded brass pommel includes U.S. Patent 4,520,566. Both crossguards are 1/4" brass. For the Gentlemen of Quarterbore: Please be advised the original prototype for this bayonet was crafted by George Curtis Davis (father), who helped earn four Presidential Unit Citations for the bloodiest combat your mind can conceive, as per the battlefields of Korea (U.S. Army 24th Infantry, 21st Regiment, 3rd battalion---July 5, 1950-October 1951). And otherwise, even as this bayonet was crafted by my own hands, the bloody footprints in the snow, as per Washington's troops at Valley Forge, were, and remain, ever present in my thoughts.
