Hi Guys,

I suppose a quick intro is in order. I'm from Western Australia, a beautiful state with the worst possible gun laws imaginable. I am a Maintenance Planner at an Iron Ore Mine in our North, I fly in and out to work 1600klms one way, working 8 days on 6 days off. The roster is excellent giving me plenty of time to follow my interests, Both of which are GUNS!!
I have researched the .300 Whisper and I am very much impressed with what it can do. I hunt in a very noise sensitive area, so a Whisper is pretty much what I am limited to. The one thing I have not been able to find out to my satisfaction is the Whispers suitability to hunting. I am well aware of that there are no projectiles that will expand suitably at subsonic speeds (I will only be hunting at subsonic speeds). So what I am asking is, what are your experiences hunting with the .300 Whisper at subsonic speeds (pros-cons)? And, how reliable is the 240gn SMK to tumble-yaw after impact? I do not wish to wound and lose game, but I do need to hunt under the guide line above.

Thanks for the replys in advance.

There are a couple of hunting threads up with pics. I haven't hunted with my Whisper yet but everything I've read seems positive. Having a subsonic 240gr .308 bullet go straight through an animal does a lot of damage. Any breakup or tumble is gravy.

If you are hunting with a bolt action look at Outlaw State Bullets (http://www.outlawstatebullets.com/2.html). They have a 225gr and a 240gr expanding subsonic in .308 designed for the Whisper. The only problem I had was getting them to feed reliably in an AR but if you aren't using a semi-auto they should be the ticket.

If you can go supersonic the Nosler 125gr Ballistic Tip and the 110gr and 130gr Barnes bullets seem to work well.

My son and I dropped a button buck last week with the 240 SMK, at a ranged 253 yards, quartering away thru the ribs and out the base of the neck and it dropped right there and kicked a bit. My son went and cleaned it so donnt know what happened inside, rib cage was all bloodshot and the exit hole looked small.
