I've been working toward getting one of these things shooting for a long time but the long action required and gargantuan size of the loaded round make life difficult. The 300's worked well and kept me happy for a while but the 12.7X48 was the goal and at the SHOT show last year the rifle I needed showed up. Its a Desert Tactical SRS bullpup with a switchable barrel setup. It was designed for 338 Lapua Mag originally but was made to use a 300 win mag, 308 win or 243 by changing the barrel, bolt and mag as required. Since the 12.7X48 is based on the .338 lapua case this was ideal for me. I had a 1:9 twist .50 cal barrel for a blank and the rifle showed up on my doorstep a couple weeks ago so with a bit of late night labor the barrel got done. The suppressor also got started but no baffles as yet. Test firing was accomplished today with the empty suppressor can and all 6 rds I have brass for. The result was outstanding. The empty can did a remarkable job of suppressing the noise to the point where no muffs or plugs were needed. The API bullets put a pretty good dent in the armor plate we shot even at only 1000 fps. All in all a good test and looking forward to getting more brass made up so we can shoot more than 6 shots.
