Buckmaster with fullered blade

I recently picked up this early pattern Buckmaster with a fullered blade. When I got it the grip was wrapped in blue tape. I unwrapped the grip tonight and found that the sides of the grip are machines flat. I don't know if the fuller is original from Buck or was machined into the blade by a previous owner. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'd see this model on ebay some days ago .... But , (in my opinion) that was made by an independant ... The fuller is too bad-made

Actually the fuller is rather well made. I sent pictures to Joe Houser and he said that it looks very similar to grooves on some other Buck knives. He is checking with some people at Buck who worked on the 184 project to see if they can shed any light on the subject.
