milling attachment setup question

I inherited a Craftsman/Atlas unit; 12" swing and 24" between centers, Quick Change gears, model #101.27430. In the box of parts is a Palmgren #250 milling attachment. Does anyone know how to get that Palmgren on the compound rest?? The instruction book says to "remove the compound rest from the cross slide swivel" and "mount the attachment ....." Removing the compound rest leaves me with the swivel post visible, but the milling attachment, which has a heavy "U" shaped base, will not attach to anything as far as I can see. I know it used to be used by my father, but he never showed me how to put it on. Can anybody lead me through the process? Thanks in advance.
